THE FREEWHEEL
"Combining sophisticated song writing with the most beautiful harmonies imaginable, it seems like you were destined to find each other"
(Ian Daley, editor of Route Magazine)
The Freewheel was founded by Laura Midgley and Clayton Devanny, a couple of music lovers (Yorkshire born and bred), singing about the world around them. "It's hard to pigeon-hole ourselves into any one musical genre but the music is largely dominated by vocal harmonies and guitars. In this sense, our musical output reflects our own diverse taste and wide range of influences, from Regina Spektor, to Neil Young, from Stevie Wonder to Nirvana; the list could go on and on and on........!" With a hint of folk and a twist of funk, The Freewheel create timeless sounding songs with words that often resonate deeply with the listener and manage to stir up emotions, particularly at their live shows.
In 2011, after gigging together for many years in Leeds and its surrounding areas as well as venturing further afield to play some of the UKs best festivals, they moved to West London where they are currently enjoying being inspired by city life and bouncing from its creative fringes. Ironically, after making the move, they met their drummer, Bombay-born Vibhas Rahul (aka Titu) who now resides in Leeds just a stones-throw away from where the pair grew up! Titu travels down to London and Laura and Clayton travel up to Leeds and they gig to audiences North and South to great acclaim and in between enjoy virtual jams and late night drunken conversations online. "We love the feeling that we've discovered something special. [the Freewheel, regulars at BrixTown Sessions] are exactly that!" says Trudi Mosiamo, host of the popular Brixton show.
